Updated: Apr 8, 2023

It was in 1666 that there was an epidemic of plague in London which was caused by rats and fleas. One of London’s most famous puddings was FARRINER’S Bakery, whose owner, THOMAS FARRINER, was Charles II’s cook(He provides pieces of bread and baked items to Royal Navy). In those days, most houses were made of wood, there was no electricity, so people used to light their houses with fire and cook food. Therefore, the oven is also used to bake things in it. (2nd September 1666)One night Thomas forgot to turn off the oven in his bakery and fell asleep, At night, a fire fell on a pile of wood near the oven, which started a fire in the house Thomas felt the smell of fire and everyone was on the first floor of the house, so he went to the neighbor’s house through the window but their one servant was burnt to death by their fire. During those days, hot winds were blowing in London, so the fire spread, and many houses were engulfed in it. When the fire was reported to mayor Thomas Bloodworth, he did not take the serious for this news of the fire and went to sleep. Samuel Pepys, During those days, used to write articles in the newspaper and lived in the Tower of London. Seeing the fire and its spread, he ran and reported to King Charles 2nd. Charles ordered that all houses and places in the fire’s path be surrounded. In those days, there was no firefighting authority or vehicles, so people started putting out the fire themselves by filling water buckets. The fire continued to spread continuously for 5 to 6 days (till 6 September 1666), On 6th September 1666, 6 people also died in the fire according to the record, this fire was completely controlled. Then a committee was formed to find out the causes of this fire but they could not reach any conclusion and And it was given as an act of God but But the people whose houses were burnt were about to accept it and were asking the government for help. Then the series of conspiracies started. People say that this is really an act of God, then they say that someone(France and Netherlands, Anglo dich ) attacked them. The anglo-duch war also going on during those days between British vs France, because King Charles 2nd belongs to the protestants and he did not tolerate the activities of Catholics in Britain. Once a french citizen Robert Hubert, who was living in Britain revealed that he was responsible for the fire and was sentenced to death. A series of conspiracies continued till fifty years after the fire(in 1678 people makes a special conspiracy theory that try to establish the planning of the attack by Catholics). In the end, after the fire of 950th years, in 1986, Baker’s counsel accepted and confess to responsibility for the fire. After the fire, in order to re-establish London with the shape of( Wider roads will be built and this time London, houses will be made of bricks and a fire fighting institute will be built).
