Picture (Visual) analysis

New York Times published a picture in which two people settled outside the closed shops of a Market, during the pandemic (Covid-19). As there was a shortage of facilities, most of the work, and businesses are closed due to covid-19, As a result of which the most damage was done to the lower class and the poor (for instance daily visors like rickshaw drivers, transporters, etc) people because their jobs were stopped. Hospitals are mostly full of Covid-19 patients in New Delhi city and many other parts of India. Also, the Indian government has imposed the strictest lockdown due to the reason for rapid effects and spread of Covid-19 (Pandemic) But its worst effect and damage was on the poor and (specifically daily basis related person) people.

Representational meaning: We analyzed the picture from two different viewpoints; narrative and conceptual. In narrative manifestation, the emphasis is on the actors, vector, and goal. If we look at the image carefully, there exist only two characters. In the picture, both of them are standing with their old clothes in their hands. From their looks and clothes, it seems that these two are hard workers, one of them is eating his food due to poverty and trouble and also without any tension but when the second person is standing to take his food, he is not able to eat because he is concerned about his appearance and the problem that he has his family in his house, the plates and food in the hands of both two persons symbolize that people are suffering from poverty and severe hunger, because their jobs have ended and they don’t know if they will get food for the next time or not. If he does not understand, ask him to take this box or take it home. From this, we can imagine how the daily visors earners and day laborers who have lost their jobs due to covid-19 react to the daily box from the government and also manage their lives during the pandemic. In addition, accept the social distance, both people don’t follow the Covid-19 SOPs, Not even wearing a mask to prevent covid-19. Interactive meaning: The camera is stabilized at (like medium shot angle) social distance from the viewer. All actors are displayed identically, as their physical articulation in the photo is synonymous, also display physically follows the covid-19 SOPs. Gays are not coming for the viewer. They are offering to see the situation. Actors aren’t busy with each other also they stand with each other at a clear distance but they have different mindsets, and problems and spend their everyday lives with multiple circumstances both they belong to the same class and again they want jobs and employment. The goal of the two people is, during the pandemic (Covid-19), they can get adequate/proper and regular food for themselves and their families, and get employment for themselves. Compositional meaning: The composition of the picture is taken into account to analyze what the picture is representing. Actors are wearing the same color dress which means they are equal in status. The orange color of their dress shows that they are working to purify the world from the virus their behavior shows he lives without any family and just works on his own and another actor in a blue shirt represents behavior like Feelings, love, and anxiety for any lover and maybe his family. The situation of Covid and its consequences are given in the example of both of these persons who standing outside of closed shops, Closed-shops representing the priority of health instead of business, profit, and employment during the pandemic. The reality of the Covid age is given more importance in the center of the image and the rest is marginalized with their insignificant importance also due to covid-19 people change their own daily life according to the new life-cycle and SOPs.
