Abstract
The article describes a few chunks of a study published by the news agency Al Jazeera English (AJE), the article is also used as investigative discourse (especially in this article) about the prohibition of the Friday prayer in many countries and the power presented by certain countries due to prevent covid-19. Through three-dimensional (critical discourse analysis) CDA stated by (Fairclough 1995-2004) used as a fundamental theory. Fairclough divides (levels of observations of analysis) into three parts (Micro, meso, and macro level) of analysis. Micro-level, which is (Data analysis) showed that the text contains the active transitive structure for the demonstrating subjects of sentences (there are some words that mostly appear in the text such as Muslim and prayer). Meso-level of analysis, and intertextual analysis describes that there are assumptions in the text. This data also describes that people showed disobedience related to the governmental regulation and worshippers still practiced prayers at the mosques (people demand with government to give permission for prayer with Covid-19 SOPs and regulations but the government stance is law is equal for everyone and they don’t give any permission for gathering. Macro-level of analysis illustrates and published the general opinions of people and also updated the issues because the people recognize the news agency (AJE) as good reputation. Overall this article focused on the prohibition of communal prayers and the power of the government to regulate the policy during the pandemic (Covid-19).
Introduction
This article describes the importance and history of news and information. Information becomes a daily need for most people. Previously, newspapers or magazines were published daily, weekly, or monthly but in today’s society, information has become a necessity, and more digital. People now receive news feeds every hour or minute on their phones and the internet. Putra & Triyono (2018) illustrated language, using the platform of journalism as a unique way to introduce ‘informative language along with expressions and directions with the name “Language press”. AJE published articles regarding the covid-19 outbreak, which had been raising attention and update about the global emergency situation in 2020. The people had been recommended to apply for physical distancing (following Covid-19 SOPs) due to the pandemic, opening remarks said by DG WHO (Word Health Organization) during a media briefing on Covid-19,18th March 2020 published on their websites (WHO 2020). It turned into a problem for Muslims to find out information on whether they could pray in Mosques. The government doesn’t try to give any permission related to any gathering due to regulation and maintenance Covid-19 related policies. The topic discussed among Muslims one of them related to praying at home which had grown into controversy between Muslims and the government. Muslims demand the government to give permission for they could perform their prayer in mosques according to implementation and (follow the Covid-19 rules and regulations, SOPs also like the situation of Pakistan, Smart & Micro-smart lockdown policy as well). Policy regulated by the government power presented as the authorities due to the spread covid-19 in several countries. AJE published articles regarding the situation in Muslim-majority countries. Ramanathan & Hoon
(2015) argued that society performed such religious principles endeavors cover propositions that are important in how they performed their own social practices which enclose power and cause ideology. However, Putra & Triyono (2018) again augmented discourse and mass media are bounded together to establish the emergence of discourse which will be very dependent on the readers and their opinions. Moreover, describes the research of “Putra & Triyono (2018)” (how they used the platform of journalism in a unique way & introduced informative language along with expressions and directions with the name “Language press”. However, describes the importance and how-to (AJE) to convey fresh information about the Covid-19 pandemic and due to global emergency situation given to the public through news, and article publishing, again exploring the media briefing of DG(WHO) about the pandemic, and articles published on their website (WHO 2020) and disobedience by public related to government regulations about covid-19, and also describes the conflict between the government and Muslims about the prohibition of the Friday prayer in mosques because (due to pandemic and It was possible that if these people gathered in the mosque and prayed, the infection would spread more, that was Muslims performs 5 times prayers in their home but they try to for just Jumma prayer at mosque but the government believe on equality and their order and instructions)by WHO. Overall this article focused on the prohibition of communal prayers and the power of the government to regulate and implementation about the policy during the pandemic (Covid-19) 2020 and the quality of the way of conveying the information to public through news and articles about covid-19 pandemic by Al-Jazeera English.
